The little Egret is a member of the Heron family and is easily identified by its pure white plumage.

It shuffles its feet under the water to disturb small mollusks and fish which it feed on.

Little Egrets are now common in Ireland but they were infrequent visitors up to about 20 years ago. Now they breed right across the country.
